2008 xB

Like the previous generation xB, the all-new 2008 model was styled with distinctiveness in mind.

These exterior styling cues include the soft angles between its wide and flat paneling, high beltline, elongated headlamps that wrap around the side of the vehicle, inset taillights, rectangular grille, pronounced fenders, and single rear backup light on the left bumper.

The xB also features tinted rear windows, and turn signals integrated into the side mirrors. . ...   MORE

Cars So Hip That It Hurts

TOYOTA’S creation of the Scion brand seemed like a great idea.

While Lexus caters to the rich and Toyota sates the masses’ appetite for mainstream transportation, Scion is supposed to tap into a contingent of young buyers with short money and a penchant for the funky. Then (goes the theory) when those Scion buyers eventually get better jobs and have their face tattoos removed, they move up the ladder to Toyota. Or to Lexus. ...   MORE

Scion xD Book of Deviants Online Game .....an Unusual Way To Market a Car

TORRANCE, Calif. — Toyota's Scion division has a well-earned reputation for edgy marketing. Now the 2008 xD is being advertised through a bizarre online game called Book of Deviants, in which players are to kill troll-like characters called "sheeple" and collect their blood — and help the "Little Deviants" take back their city — to get a chance to win an xD.

The Web game has chapters titled "Take Down," "Slaughter Park" and "The Deviant Factory," among others. A Scion xD cruises dank-looking streets while the xD badge appears next to the slogan, "Something a little deviant." Click on the above photo to play the game.

Scion's xD proves it's hip to be square
By Russ Heaps - The Washington Times January 11, 2008

Huey Lewis said it best when he sang, "It's hip to be square."

Evidently that's the mantra over at Scion, the let's-see-if-we-can-sell-some-cars-to-people-under-forty division of Toyota.

Actually, Scion is aimed at a much younger demographic than forty, but thus far it has had only mixed success in reeling in the 16 to 25 year-old buyers it's trolling for.

These cars are so packed with value that older, wiser consumers — those less than concerned with decent acceleration — just can't seem to stay away. More....

First Drive: 2008 Scion xB
By Edward Loh

When it launched Scion back in 2003, Toyota claimed the founding tenet of its new, youth-oriented brand would be surprise.

Surprise in the look of the vehicles, the low price, and the high level of content.

Surprise in its gamechanging plan for short vehicle life cycles and regular rollouts of specially equipped, limited-edition models.

Surprises that wouldn't be limited just to the products, but would infiltrate the entire brand experience-from Scion's nontraditional, underground marketing campaign to its no-negotiating, "Pure Pricing" policy. More ........

Toyota's "fun ideas" are reserved for Scion

Yes, this front-wheel-drive sedan has grown a bit over the years, become somewhat quieter and slightly more comfortable, and acquired a few more features and the price tag to go with them.

But it seems that Toyota's fun ideas -- the ones that could lend some character to the moribund Corolla, things like edgy sheet metal and interior mood lighting -- are reserved for sister brand Scion......  MORE

2008 Scion xB 2nd Gen Review

"No one in the automotive industry is as hard-wire-connected to its owners as is Scion, and the 2008 xB is a perfect example," said Mark Templin, Scion vice president. "We've stated in the past that we'll probably always have a box in the Scion lineup.     Read the review at DigiAds.com.

Scion's bigger xB is better
By CLINT WILLIAMS
Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 09/28/07

The 2008 Scion xB is bigger than the quirky car it replaces, but does that make it better? Yes. While not all changes are for the better, the redesigned Scion xB offers more power and safety features than the cult car it replaces. Bottom line: the xB remains a frugal family car offering plenty of features at a no-dicker sticker price way south of $20,000.

Scion xB:

  • Body styles: four-door compact wagon
  • Price: base MSRP $16,600; tester was
        $17,870
  • Drive: front wheel
  • Seating: two in front, three in back
  • Engine: 2.4-liter four-cylinder
  • Transmission: five-speed manual, four-
         speed automatic
  • Miles per gallon of fuel: EPA estimate 22
         city/28 highway
  • The Scion xB competes in a relatively small but steadily growing field of smallish, wagonish-type rides. These would include entrants such as the Dodge Caliber, Chevrolet HHR, Chrysler PT Cruiser and Subaru Forester. The PT Cruiser rose to fame upon its introduction several years ago for its retro styling, which was followed by the HHR. The relatively new Caliber has had modest success.

    Scion Builds an XL xB
    By Bradford Elsinore, Contributor

Our designer sunglasses tilt down momentarily as our 2008 Scion xB struts through a college town. It's here in a never-ending string of bars, coffee shops and record stores that the Scion nation will decide what's in and what's not. And like its predecessor, the all-new 2008 Scion xB is designed to get the attention of those raised on cell phones, Lindsay Lohan and MTV without music videos. More.....

    Asian car brands top survey
By Dee-Ann Durbin - Associated Press - Published on: 10/17/07

Detroit —- Asian brands continue to trounce their domestic rivals in Consumer Reports' annual survey of vehicle reliability, but Toyota's scores are falling while Ford is making its most reliable vehicles in years, the nonprofit group said Tuesday.

Making it into the top 10 were Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus, Scion and Toyota brands. Toyota had 17 vehicles on Consumer Reports' list of the 39 most reliable models, far more than any other automaker.

Former amateur race driver has fun with Toyota Scion xB

Why would a car former amateur race car driver who has customized dozens of his own vehicles, including a rare Lincoln limousine, go out and buy something as boxy as a 2006 Toyota Scion xB?

Because the Scion xB looked like it would be a lot of fun to own, drive and transform into something special, says Cliff McKillop, a 69-year-old former amateur race car driver and a design and art specialist who lives in Rochester Hills, as reported by Jenny King on Saturday, March 10, 2007, in a Special to The Detroit News

2008 Scion xB and 2008 Scion xD: For Scion, change is good
