NO 4TH SCION Toyota has
no plans to expand its youth-oriented Scion line because to do so would
cause it to lose its cachet, the company's top executive told Reuters.
Since the first Scions were introduced in 2003, the company has sold 160,000
of them in the USA. The average Scion buyer age of 31 makes it "the
youngest brand in the industry," Press said.
Scion Named 'Future Collector Car' by CNN That's right, if you are a Scion owner then you are driving tomorrow's classic. Scion is targeted at the young, thrifty and hip. The cars are simple, not terribly powerful and made to be easily customized. The tall, boxy Scion xB is the most popular model and the most instantly recognizable to American consumers. The version shown here is the xB Release Series 4.0 which features color-shifting paint.

Coolest Under $18K The
newly introduced Yaris, Scion xB and
Scion tC are among the top 10 cars under $18,000, according
to Kelley
Blue Book. "We settled on the $18,000 price point, because it
offers most buyers a monthly payment of less than $350 over the course
of a five-year loan," said Jack R. Nerad, editorial director of Kelley
Blue Book's kbb.com.
To keep its cool, Scion's strategy is to sell fewer cars
Scion, Toyota Motor Corp.'s youth-focused small-car brand, has decided it is too hot for its own good. According to Gina Chon, of the The Wall Street Journal.
The brand is on track to beat its 150,000-car-a-year sales goal by 25,000 vehicles in 2006. That is a big reason why Toyota has surpassed DaimlerChrysler AG this year to become the No. 3 auto maker in the U.S. in sales.
But instead of riding that momentum to increase sales still further, Scion plans to throttle back production to keep sales from going above 150,000 vehicles next year. It is part of marketing strategy to keep the brand special and, above all, cool.
